Dave Trabert is President of Kansas Policy Institute. He is a frequent speaker to business, legislative and civic groups and also does research and writes on fiscal policy and education issues. He most recently authored “Kansas County Budget Analysis – In Search of Efficient Government” and “Volume III: Analysis of K-12 Spending in Kansas”, a primer on the history of Kansas education spending. Trabert regularly testifies before Kansas House and Senate committees on state budget, tax and education issues. He also serves on the Tax and Fiscal Policy Task Force for the American Legislative Exchange Council and is a member of the Friedman Foundation for Educational Choice's Speakers Bureau. James Franko is the Communications Director at Kansas Policy Institute. In this role, he is responsible for media relations and outreach, and building awareness about KPI and its mission around the state. James brings experience from across the free-market movement including time on Capitol Hill and with the National Center for Policy Analysis, a Dallas based think tank. While on Capitol Hill, he handled a variety of policy issues and spent time as a staff member within the Kansas delegation. James has published opinion pieces in such places as the DailyCaller.com and the Washington Times as well as policy briefs while working for the National Center for Policy Analysis. A Kansas native and Wildcat, James was raised in Stilwell and graduated from Kansas State University in 2005. Laurie Bleeker Gregory is Kansas Policy Institute’s Development Director. Laurie’s focus is to help expand KPI’s effectiveness through increased financial backing and expanding KPI's base of support. In this role, Laurie’s background in policy as a Kansas State Senator from 1997 to 2001 (33rd Kansas Senate District), serves her well. Her emphasis on education policy resulted in serving on the Great Bend School Board and recently the School Board at Maize. While in the Senate, she chaired the Education / Workforce Development Committee for the American Legislative Exchange Council. Laurie also brings private sector experience as a former small business owner. Todd Davidson
is Kansas Policy Institute’s Fiscal Policy Analyst. Todd is responsible for KPI's transparency portal, kansasopengov.org, and researching tax and fiscal policy in the Sunflower State. While pursuing his M.A. in Economics at KU, Todd developed an economic model of economic development investment in western Wyandotte County. He also examined the "Paradox of Plenty," in which resource rich countries (e.g., oil-rich Nigeria) grow at a much slower rate than other countries without the apparent advantage of abundant natural resources. A lifelong Kansan, Todd is originally from Tonganoxie and holds both a B.S. and an M.A. in Economics from the University of Kansas.  E-mail Todd Davidson here.
